City Reaps a Bumper Harvest in 16th WCIF

The 16th Western China International Fair took place on November 3-14 in Chengdu, with the aim to promote the “Belt and Road Initiative” and Western Development strategy.
As the guest of honor of the event, Germany send an entourage of nearly 500 businesspeople and government officials led by Sigmar Gabriel, German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economics and Energy.
Foreign leaders and former politicians including Guinean President Mr. Alpha Conde, Afghan Second Vice President Mr. Sarwar Danesh, and President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, 37 foreign ministers, 25 ambassadors to China, 5 international organization leaders, nearly 300 representatives from well-known chambers of commerce, and 107 representatives from 107 Fortune Global 500, top 500 companies in China and top 500 private companies in China participated in the Fair.
The event brought together about 60,000 businesspeople, over 20,000 of whom were from overseas. 9072 companies from 76 countries (regions) including 2347 foreign ones showed up as exhibitors at the Fair.
During the 12-day Fair, 1008 investment deals valued at 787.685 billion yuan were inked. Of the number, 836 deals worth 657.25 billion yuan, 83.4% of the total, were reached between companies from Sichuan and their partners from home and abroad. The business and trade volume of Sichuan companies was 5.86 billion yuan.
As part of the cooperation mechanisms stated in the Vision and Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-century Maritime Silk Road, the Western China International Fair (WCIF) is now one of the national top 10 regional exhibitions to promote " Belt and Road Initiative."
Focusing on the development of the Chengdu-Europe express rail cargo service, boundary-crossing facilities and passages, Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, as well as business & trade and people-to-people cooperation in Sino-Russia Two-river Basin areas, task-oriented dialogues and talks were convened during the Fair.
Organizers of the event set up 9 professional exhibition halls which highlight Sichuan and western China's competitive industries, resources and markets associated with equipment manufacturing, aviation, emergency rescue industry, electronic information, new energy and new materials. Including 91,000 professionals, 510,000 people visited the Fair.
