China’s National Development and Reform Commission recently approved the establishment of demonstration zones for regional development and cooperation between China and Japan in Chengdu, Tianjin, Dalian, Shanghai, Suzhou and Qingdao.
On May 20, the zone, to be located in Chengdu High-tech Zone, was inaugurated at an online business promotion event.
Consisting of three parts, with a total area of 36.9 square kilometers initially, the zone will focus on the cooperation between China and Japan in such fields as cultural and creative industries, animation, tourism, digital media, education, cultural trade and finance, as well as aviation economy.
At the event, four projects were signed between Japanese companies and Chengdu High-tech Zone, including the China headquarters for Ito Yokado's BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and Japanese company DAC's innovation center in southwestern China, to be launched in the demonstration zone.
"In recent years, the relationship between Chengdu and Japan has become ever closer. I expect that the demonstration zone will play an important role in furthering the mutual cooperation in innovation-driven industries between Chengdu and Japan," said Mr. Nobuyuki Watanabe, Consul General of Japan in Chongqing, noting that he wishes Chengdu and Chongqing would cooperate in various fields and strengthen their relationships with Japan together.
