Chengdu’s Volume of Cross-Border E-Commerce Exceeds RMB5 Billion in 2017

The Chengdu E-commerce Association reviewed and concluded the city’s development in the cross-border e-commerce industry in 2017 at its annual meeting convened on January 17.
In 2017, Chengdu's trade volume of cross-border e-commerce exceeded RMB5 billion, increasing by 117% compared with RMB2.3 billion a year ago. The Association signed cooperation framework agreements on higher education talent with the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and School of Economic Information Engineering of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) respectively, to jointly found a think tank focusing on the city's cross-border e-commerce sector in the future.
Doubled Trade Volume of Cross-Border E-Commerce
Since September 2015 when the city launched services involving personal inbound goods, Chengdu has carried out all types of cross-border e-commerce business. Currently, the city's public service platform for cross-border e-commerce transactions is able to offer services focusing on import and export declaration. The platform was put into operation February 2, 2016 in Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Chengdu Qingbaijiang International Railway Port and Chengdu Shuangliu Comprehensive Bonded Zone, etc.
So far, the access to the platform has been given to nearly 150 companies, and 320,000 cross-border e-commerce transactions, valued at around RMB100 million, have been handled. The six off-line cross-border e-commerce parks across the city have been home to more than 200 cross-border e-commerce businesses, and a space covering 60,000 m2 for O2O experience and imported products exhibition has been made ready.
Chengdu's import and export trade volume between January and November of 2017 reached RMB361.68 billion, increasing by 50.3% year on year, and ranking second among 15 sub-provincial cities in China.
Cooperation Framework Agreement on Talent with Universities in Chengdu
"The partnership with universities will help the city develop the cross-border e-commerce sector, enhance the comprehensive quality of the industry and social effect, and lead the industry to grow soundly and rationally," said an official from the Association.
Teaming up with universities, Chengdu will establish an e-commerce think tank, provide professional training, and launch industry summits and forums, in an effort to spur the fast growth of the sector.
