The four years of work and life in Chengdu have made Katarzyna feel at home in the city.
"Chengdu is my second hometown," said Katarzyna Wilkowiecka with strong emotion. She will leave her post as Consul General of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Poland in Chengdu and bid farewell to the city in late September. Sitting in her office in a building at the very center of downtown Chengdu, Ms. Wilkowiecka shared her work and life experiences in Chengdu, as well as her affection for the city, in an interview with some major media outlets in Chengdu.

The Consulate-General of the Republic of Poland in Chengdu opened officially on June 18, 2015. As its first Consul General, Katarzyna started her work in the city from scratch. Responsible for everything of the consulate general, she was even involved in the interior decoration and furnishing of the office. "When I arrived in Chengdu, the interior decoration and furnishing of the office space were not finished yet, so I had to deal with various daily routines while supervising and pushing for all work related to the working space," she said.
According to Katarzyna, the biggest challenge she was confronted with in her work in the very beginning was to persuade and convince more Polish companies to make investment in Chengdu, a city with great potential and full of opportunities.
Through nearly four years of the mutual efforts and cooperation between the Chinese and Polish sides, Poland and Chengdu have achieved fruitful results in various fields. Currently, trains, via the China-Europe Railway Express Chengdu, transport electronic products made in Chengdu to Poland, and bring abundant Polish farm produce back to southwest China market. The Sichuan University has established the Center for Polish, Central & Eastern European Studies. The annual event Poland Day in Chengdu has gained increasing popularity among Chengdu residents, attracting more and more Polish musicians and artists to the city for cultural exchanges ...Speaking of these developments, Katarzyna can't conceal her sense of pride.

Katarzyna said that when she just came to Chengdu, she had a big wish to walk around and thus to have a better understanding of the city. "Chengdu is too big," she exclaimed with a smile. After work and on holidays, she usually goes to parks and places of historic interest and natural beauty by bike or metro, or wanders around the high streets and back lanes. The dribs and drabs of her life in the city have been imprinted in her mind, she said.
The four years of work and life in Chengdu have made Katarzyna feel at home in the city. She hopes to take some typical Chengdu flavors back to Poland. "Before leaving, I will buy some Chengdu tea and authentic hotpot seasonings, and of course, giant panda dolls," she said.
