Chengdu Embraces Cuisine Carnival

The 14th Chengdu International Food & Tourism Festival and the 7th Slow Food International Congress took place in Chengdu, with the participation of over three million domestic and international visitors.
Themed "Chengdu, with profound culture and civilization, a city of slow food," the Festival was held in Anren Town, west Chengdu's Dayi County, and Shangri-La Hotel. During the event, a cuisine carnival was staged at Jinjiang Hotel, a cooking contest between local and international chefs at Sichuan Tourism College, and an online food festival.
During the 7th Slow Food International Congress, which saw the presence of 500 plus foreign guests from 92 countries and regions, a team of cooks from Silicon Valley led by Martin Yan, a world famous TV chef from the US, American writer Thie Zervaki and British food writer Fuchsia Dunlop attended a cooking competition between American and Chinese chefs.
Slow Food International, organizer of the event, titled Chengdu an international City of Slow Food, the first one of its kind in Asia. And it will build a global slow food promotion center and a village of slow food in the city.
As of October 7, over three million people had visited the food and tourism festival, pushing the event's sales revenue up by 40% to nearly RMB96.49 million, compared with that of a year ago.
The Festival was held concurrently October 1-2 in Dénia, Spain. And in early November, the Chengdu Food Festival will take place again in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
