As of August 20, the ground-breaking ceremony of the AkzoNobel’s decorative paints Chengdu site was held in southwest Chengdu’s Qionglai City. The base, which will produce AkzoNobel’s famous Dulux coatings, is co-invested by the Netherlands-based AkzoNobel, the world’s largest manufacturer of powder coatings, and the UK-headquartered John Swire & Sons Ltd.
With a total investment of €44 million (approx. US$58.42 million), the Chengdu site will become AkzoNobel’s largest decorative coatings production base in China and its fourth manufacturing plant in the country.
To expand its business operations and sales network in western China, AkzoNobel has opened a regional office, a powder coatings production plant and a training center involving vehicle painting in Chengdu. “We always focus on the long-term development of the Chinese market. Our presence in Chengdu shows our ambition to further explore the market, which is strategically important for us,” said Ton Büchner, CEO of AkzoNobel.
The first phase of the Chengdu site is scheduled to start operation in 2016, and the whole project will be completed by the end of 2017.

FAW-VW Chengdu Expects to Make 600,000 Sedans This Year

The Chengdu base is now using its full capacity and aims to produce 600,000 vehicles this year, according to Zhang Pijie, general manager of FAW-Volkswagen.

Tesla Chengdu Service Center to Open This Year

Recently, an official of the US-based electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors Inc. revealed that Tesla Chengdu service center, the first one of the company in western China, is under construction and is anticipated to open by the end of this year.
