Jinjiang District

Jinjiang District holds a conspicuous place in the core downtown Chengdu and serves as the CBD of the city.
With an area of 62 square kilometers and a permanent population of more than 700 thousand (including a registered population of 450 thousand), the district has 16 sub-district offices, 64 communities and five industrial functional zones under its administration.
The district has made a historic progress socially and economically in recent years as it speeds up the process to make its area a national-level urban area of modernity, internationality and human-friendly habitat, adhering to the principal of the perspectives of scientific development. The honors the district has won include Top Ten Area of Modern Services in China, China’s Model District for Harmonious Community, China’s Experimental District of Innovative Community Management and Service and Top Urban Area in the Chinese Mainland for Investments from HK SAR.

The district prioritizes the industry of modern services in its economic development and has formed a well-developed system of modern commerce, cultural & innovative industry, financing and life services. It has a large number of 5-star hotels and the housing economy is keeping a healthy development trend. The district has the largest cluster of financing institutions in western China and most of the overseas banks and insurance companies in Chengdu have found their settlement in the district. Nowadays, Chunxi Road, nearby the Dongda Street and under jurisdiction of Jinjiang District, becomes the core agglomeration area of the retail industry where high-end and luxury brands sttled and quality retail properties come together with a high degree of aggregation, and it's also the leading sub-market for the development of the retail industry in Chengdu.
The Jinjiang River, a tributary of the Minjiang River, runs across most areas of the district. The river has long been a laudatory object in the poems by many of the most prestigious poets, such as Li Bai, Du Fu and Lu You. The Dongda Street in the district is dubbed as the No. 1 Street of Sichuan and served as the main expressway for businessmen in history. The district also boasts the birthplace of the first paper currency in the world (Jiaozi, 交子in Chinese) and the first bank for merchants in China and the first issue of securities in modern China.

The district is the host place of the 12th Fortune Global Forum and has attracted 103 Fortune Global 500 companies and more than 300 multinational companies to settle down within its area, boasting the largest number of Fortune Global 500 companies and multinational companies among the urban districts in western China. The famous Dongda Street is now taking a new look each day and will be the city’s Meeting Hall of modernity and internationality, while the construction of the Jinjiang International New City, a high-end international commercial zone, is now underway.
The district leads in Sichuan in the experiment of reforms in management of streets, residential communities and social organizations. The district was awarded for its contribution to city construction and nominated for the honor of China Award for urban management. It has pioneered in adjustment of industrial structure, the development of housing economy and the emerging industries, including E-commerce. The policy openness of the government in city reconstruction and relocation has won a national fame and public praise.
The district puts great efforts in making the environment more eco-friendly that covers the urban and suburban areas as it is increasing investment in building and refurnishing parks, green belts and biking paths. The forested area of the whole district has reached 45%, while the public green area per capita has reached 12 square meters. The district has the city’s first crisscrossing network of green biking paths and the Bailuwan Ecological Wetland will soon finish its construction and open to the public.
