By December 2013, there were 252 Fortune Global 500 companies settled in Chengdu, including 188 foreign enterprises and 64 domestic enterprises.
The investment fields were concentrated in the advanced manufacturing industry and the high-end service industry, involving dozens of industries like electronic information, automobile machinery, new energy, new material, finance, commerce and trade.
Twenty-two of Fortune Global 500 companies had established business presence in Chengdu. International Business Machines Corporation, Sony Corporation and China Resources (Holdings) Co., Ltd. expanded their business and 8 other Fortune Global 500 companies, including Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation, Germany’s Robert Bosch GmbH, Siemens AG, launched new branch offices here in the same year, according to a report from the Chengdu Investment Promotion Commission.
By December 2013, there were 252 Fortune Global 500 companies settled in Chengdu, including 188 foreign enterprises and 64 domestic enterprises. The investment fields were concentrated in the advanced manufacturing industry and the high-end service industry, involving dozens of industries like electronic information, automobile machinery, new energy, new material, finance, commerce and trade.
At present, the quantity, amount of investment and industry field of Fortune Global 500 companies settled in Chengdu rank No. 1 among central and western cities in China.
Foreign direct investment
Foreign direct investment in the city surged 27.8 percent year-on-year to $9.86 billion in the January-November 2013 period, according to the municipal government.
China's western region has drawn increasing FDI in recent years. In 2013, FDI in the western region reached $10.6 billion, up 6.96 percent, compared with the national figure of 5.25 percent, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
255 Fortune Global 500 Companies Drawn to Chengdu in H1
Chengdu witnessed the business presence of the South Korea-headquartered Pohang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (POSCO), China International Trust & Investment Corporation Group and the US-based Rockwell Collins in the city in this year’s first half. To date, the city has attracted 255 Fortune Global 500 Companies, according to a special press conference held by the Information Office of Chengdu Municipal People’s Government on July 23.
Chen Fu, deputy director and spokesman of the Chengdu Investment Promotion Commission announced that the number of the Fortune Global 500 Companies in Chengdu is expected to reach 260 by the end of this year.
According to the data released at the conference, from January to June Chengdu’s newly introduced major projects（including those with expanded capital）hit 219 which are valued at RMB139.61billion (approx. US$22.35billion) ，realizing 54.75% of the full-year target. Among the projects, 22 invested by Fortune Global 500 companies are worth RMB19.027billion (approx. US$3.05billion) in total, and 82 each with an investment of over RMB500 million (approx.. US$83.3 million) RMB111.538billion (approx. US$17.86billion) totally.
