Pakistani Student Sumair: an Epidemic Control Volunteer

Authors: Go Chengdu

Sumair from Pakistan, now a doctoral candidate at Southwestern Jiaotong University, is busy helping with community management in the battle against the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Pidu District in western Chengdu.
Sumair lives in a community with many residents from different countries and language barriers make it difficult for local community workers to conduct heath check-ups. So Sumair volunteered to join in the community management in the efforts during the difficult period.
Sumair made telephone calls to his classmates from India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Russia, Sudan and Yemen, to investigate their health status. "I've been living here for half a year. In view of the current situation, I hope to tide over difficulties for all of us," said Sumair.
Sumair's work also include patrolling streets with community staff and reminding local residents of wearing masks. According to him, the voluntary work is meaningful, and he hopes that everybody can join hands to combat the spread of the COVID-2019. "I will encourage more foreigners to join in the battle," he said.
