Li Dong (立冬) means that winter begins from the day. After the Beginning of Winter, sunshine time continues to shorten in the northern hemisphere.
The Beginning of Winter (Li Dong, "立冬"in Chinese) is the 19th term of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms (a supplementary system in the Chinese calender to guide farm work) and falls on sometime around Nov. 7-8, when the sun moves to the celestial longitude of 225 degrees. Li (立) in Chinese means "establish"or "begin", and Li Dong (立冬) means that winter begins from the day. After the Beginning of Winter, sunshine time continues to shorten in the northern hemisphere. On the days of the term, it is cold in northern China but still warm in southern China.
During the term, people should eat food which keeps body energetic, such as lean meat, egg, fish, milk product, beans, and food rich in carbohydrate and fat.
