The Beginning of Autumn (立秋 in Chinese) is the 13th term of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms and falls on August 7 this year. The Chinese character "秋" means autumn and the time for the harvest of grains.
The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms. The Beginning of Autumn, (立秋 in Chinese), the 13th solar term of the year, begins on August 7 and ends on August 21 this year .
Autumn is the transition season between hot summer and cold winter. After the Beginning of Autumn, though the weather is still hot, it irreversibly gets cooler and cooler.
Due to a strong cold front from the northwest, a new round of heavy precipitation will hit Chengdu this week. Luckily, it will relieve the lingering scorching summer heat.
So please take care and carry around proper rain gear.
Autumn is the golden harvest season. At vineyards in suburban Chengdu, grapes of various species have got ripe and turned purplish red, deep purple or bright green. It is now the right time to pick the fresh fruit.
