The Frost’s Descent is the 18th term of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms and falls on Oct. 24.
The Frost's Descent is the last solar term of autumn, during which the temperature gets much colder than before, and the first frost appears in the Yellow River region.
On the days of the Frost's Descent, health care is especially important, and there is a Chinese folk saying, "Nourishing your body during days of the Frost's Descent is better than doing that all year". According to TCM experts, in terms of health protection in autumn, people should focus on protecting their bodies from dryness, depression and cold.
The reactions of autumn dryness include dry mouth, dry throat, dry skin, constipation, and so on, so nourishing foods, such as sesame, honey, tremella, green vegetables, apple and banana, etc. are preferred. The bleakness of late autumn easily makes people feel depressed, so eating more high protein foods, such as milk, eggs, mutton and beans, etc., is helpful, and some group activities like dancing, hiking, and so on, are also beneficial for fighting against depression. In order to prevent sickness, vulnerable old people should pay high attention to weather change and dress right according to the weather.
