In the Chinese culture, chrysanthemum, one of the top ten famous flowers in China (the others are plum blossom, peony, lotus, rosa chinensis, azalea, camellia, orchid, osmanthus fragrans, and narcissus), is likened to a recluse since it braves the cold weather in its blooming season in late autumn and early winter. China has a more than 3,000-year history of chrysanthemum cultivation.
The 56th Chengdu Chrysanthemum Show is being staged at the People's Park, showcasing over 200,000 pots of flowering chrysanthemum of about 1,000 species, and 8 theme attractions formed by the plant at the park, where an exhibition for works of floral designs by famous national and local floral designers is being held and will last till Nov. 12.
