Photography Exhibition on Sichuan Opera Art
2016.05.09 - 2016.05.16
Guangdong Guild Hall, Taikoo Li
Sichuan Opera, featuring unique solos, refined acting, rich percussion and talented comedians, is one of the traditional Chinese operas and a state-level intangible cultural heritage. The ongoing photography exhibition of Sichuan Opera art titled Of the Past, Of the Present displays photos taken in the past three years by local photographers Jiang Xiaowen and Zhao Xiuwen.
Jiang and Zhao's photo works highlight two types of photography: one is conceptual photography, by which the photographers take pictures of Sichuan Opera stages and performances which are set in real-life sceneries (such as the Great Wall, Palace Museum and Temple of Heaven in Beijing and the Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage in Chengdu); the other is image photography, by which images of landscapes, cultural symbols and landmark structures are incorporated into photos which have been cropped, pasted and merged. It is a way of photographic re-creation.
