With a pleasant climate, Chengdu is endowed with stunning natural beauty and has lots of beautiful and amazing tourist attractions, including the Mt. Qingchengdu-Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a world cultural heritage site, Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries, a world cultural heritage site, and Jiuzhai-Huanglong Scenic Area, a world natural heritage site. The city is the permanent venue for the UNESCO International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was initiated in May 2007 and is held biennially in Chengdu.
Over the recent years, Chengdu has been seeing more and more tourists from home and abroad. In 2014, it received 186.2 million domestic and foreign visitors, up 20.05 per cent year on year. Among them, 1.97 million are inbound tourists, increasing 11.66 per cent from a year earlier. By early 2015, there had been 63 national class-A tourist scenic spots, 247 star-rated hotels and farmhouse resorts, around 5,300 private inns and 364 travel agencies in Chengdu.
In terms of tourist facilities and services, the city can meet all requirements and demands of both home and overseas tourists. Foreign tourists are highly interested in the giant panda, Sichuan cuisine and many other things with distinctive local features.
Domestic tourists are usually attracted by the city’s cultures of Three Kingdoms and Ancient Shu and folk customs. Farmhouse resorts, rural pubs and pedestrian streets in urban areas are good places for local residents to enjoy themselves.
As a well-known transportation hub and tourist city, Chengdu is famous for its extensive transportation system as it is the communication junction of Southwest China and the gateway to Tibet. Conveniently connected to over 100 domestic and international airports, Chengdu is accessible from and to almost all the major countries in the world.

An increasing number of people are taking international flights from Chengdu as the city seeks a more global presence. Latest data from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport show that the passenger load for flights from Chengdu to London and Amsterdam stayed beyond 90 percent from Jan 1 to 10.
