Emei Shan is one the most charming tourist attractions in Sichuan.
Emei Shan (Mt. Emei), is one of China’s “Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains”. It is located at the Latitude of 30°N, in the transitional area from the southwestern margin of Sichuan Basin to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Its main peak is called as the Golden Summit with the height of 3,077 meters while the highest peak-Wanfo Summit is 3,099 meters above the sea level.
Mt. Emei has been designated a World Heritage Site in 1996 thanks to its breathtaking scenery, mysterious natural wonders, and historical Buddhist sites. The full day's hike to the summit is an unforgettable experience undertaken by many, but minibuses and cable cars make faster alternatives for travelers short of time.
The main scenic spots on the mountain include the Baoguo Temple, Wannian Temple, Fuhu Temple, Leiyin Temple, Qingyin Pavilion, Hongchun Platform, Xianfeng Temple (Jiulao Cave), Xixiang Pond and the Golden Summit. These places are at different altitudes and have different climates. Temperature at the top of the mountain is 15 degrees lower than the foot.
Mt. Emei is a well-known natural museum with more than 5,000 species of plants and animals, and monkeys are sometimes seen on the mountain trails.
