The Chengdu Panda Asian Food Festival (CPAFF), a part of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, kicked off on May 15 under the theme of “a fragrance seeking journey towards diverse and co-existing delicacies”.
According to the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce, organizers of the CPAFF held 4 international and cultural events with mass participation on May 12, including the All-star Chef Gathering, the opening ceremony of the Black Pearl Chef Club and a summit forum, Asian Hotpot Festival and Asian Food Tasting Spree.
During the food festival, renowned chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants, Black Pearl-rated restaurants, Slow Food Chef's Alliance, UNESCO cities of gastronomy in Asia and food associations, together with their Chinese counterparts, will communicate with each other about the food culture and culinary skills and showcase diverse cuisines of their home countries and regions.
The opening ceremony of the Black Pearl Chef Club and the summit forum will kick off on May 16, with the presence of many internationally renowned chefs and veteran gourmets.
The Asian Hot Pot Festival, which was open May 15 and will run till May 22, features an exhibition of Hotpot ingredients and cooking supplies, a summit forum on the Hotpot industry, an award ceremony for Jinhuo Award and a creative Hotpot fair.
During the 8-day Asian Food Tasting Spree, thousands of restaurants and 11 blocks showcasing food will hold the Asian Food Enjoying Festival, a spree where people can dine in various restaurants and clock in on the spot. Local residents and tourists are welcome to participate in games to win discounts at the check points in the food display areas.
During the 8 days, an event called "One Dish For Free" will be launched online. Consumers can have the dish to be provided by influential local restaurants, by spending just 1 cent at the main venue of the CPAFF.
