Music Industry Booms in City

Authors: China Daily

Chengdu is one of the four largest cities in China to be home to a national-level music industry base.
In 2016, total revenue from the music industry in the city exceeded 20 billion yuan for the first time.
More than 10 universities and colleges in the city, such as the Sichuan Conservatory of Music and Sichuan University, have music programs.
In September 2017, Chengdu set up a special fund of 5 billion yuan for music and related cultural industries. It is mainly used to support music projects, industrial parks, towns and independent musicians.
Commenting on how to develop the music industry in Chengdu, Bill Ivey, a folklore specialist from the United States, said that a good musical atmosphere, favorable government policies, ethnic culture resources and assembling an end-to-end music value chain are crucial.
The 2017 China Music Industry Development Index Report, released by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, said Chengdu topped all Chinese cities in terms of the number of music companies and institutional support from the government.
