The US-based Medtronic Inc., the world’s largest medical device provider, set up its first hemodialysis system production line in the Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone on August 4.
According to the agreement reached with the Chengdu Municipal Government and Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, the three parties will work together to promote the development and use of innovative therapies for Chinese patients and hospitals.
Omar Ishrak, Chairman and CEO of Medtronic, said at the inauguration ceremony for the project that as the most dynamic city in western China, Chengdu has attracted lots of Fortune Global 500 companies to establish R & D centers and production plants for its rapid economic development and well-established infrastructure. Although Medtronic just entered into the Chengdu market, it is never too late for it to make the business presence in the city.
According to Medtronic’s Chengdu base, the new hemodialysis system is primarily used for treatment of late-stage renal disease. The company has also established a fully owned subsidiary in Chengdu which is responsible for the products' distribution, supply chain management and market development on a global scale.

255 Fortune Global 500 Companies Drawn to Chengdu
To date, the city has attracted 255 Fortune Global 500 Companies, according to a special press conference held by the Information Office of Chengdu Municipal People’s Government on July 23.
