On April 12, 2014, CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) released a communique regarding the statistical productivity of china’s airports in 2013, publishing the business data including passenger traffic and cargo throughput in 2013. The statistics show the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport ranked fourth in the country and Chengdu is praised as the “Fourth Aviation City in China.”
Powerful overall strength
Routes Airport Marketing Awards 2014
So far, the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has won the Routes Airport Marketing Awards for Asia twice, demonstrating its optimal overall strength.
The airport was announced as the winner of the “Routes Airport Marketing Awards 2014 – Regional Heats – Asia” at the 12th Routes Asia, the largest route development event for Asia hosted in Malaysia. Issued by UBM Live Routes Ltd, the only specialist institute to host the world and regional World Route Development Forum, the award is aimed to recognize the airport’s optimal overall strength including routes development, marketing capability, service assurance and so on.
“Best Service” award
Sina Finance, a channel of Sina.com, the largest Chinese-language infotainment web portal, launched a survey on evaluating China’s main domestic airports. The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport ranked first. The airport’s consultation service, transportation, Luggage checking, shopping and dining environment are better than its other domestic counterparts.
Unparalleled hard power

The statistics show the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport ranked fifth in the country and Chengdu is praised as the “Fourth Aviation City in China.”
Passenger traffic ranked No.4 in China
According to figures released by the above-mentioned communique, in 2013 the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport had a passenger throughput of 33444618 person-time, up 5.9% over the previous year, ranking No.4 among China’s 193 civil airports excluding those in Hong Kong and Macao SARs and Taiwan Province.
Cargo throughput ranked No.4 in China
According to figures released by the communique, in 2013 the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport had a cargo throughput of more than 500,000 tons, ranking No.5 far ahead of other airports in the western region.
By the end of December 2013, the airport has opened 225 routes, including 72 international (regional) routes.
Striving to become a state-level international aviation hub
In 2014, Sichuan Provincial Government released a program on how to facilitate the local aviation logistics and speed up building the Shuangliu International Airport into a state-level international aviation hub. To develop international routes between Chengdu and America, Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia, the airport has been vigorously expanding market across the globe.
New opportunities for Chengdu’s aviation industry
The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport enjoys a series of national preferential policies including those regarding the title of “International Airport,” “Visa on arrival,” “Bonded Aviation Oil” and “72-Hour Visa-Free Policy.” The Sichuan Provincial Government has established a special fund for the development of the local civil aviation industry to support expansion of international routes. So far, the airport has achieved benefits from such policies which have accelerated its process to become a state-level international aviation hub.
