The Swiss Confederation will establish a consulate general in Chengdu in November.
The Embassy of Switzerland in China announced that the Swiss Confederation will establish a consulate general in Chengdu in November, which is aimed to further promote the bilateral ties in trade and other aspects with China. With Frank Eggmann as its consul-general, the consulate general will hold its launch ceremony in early 2017.
The Consulate General of Switzerland in Chengdu, with its consular districts covering Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan provinces and Chongqing Municipality, will be the fifth official mission of the Swiss government in China, after the Embassy of Switzerland in China, the consulates general in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Having a population of around 300 million, southwest China is a highly appealing market for Swiss companies. So far, a lot of Swiss companies have set foot in the region. The major work of the Consulate-General of Switzerland in Chengdu is to expedite the Sino-Swiss relations in business and trade, and promote Switzerland's hi-tech innovation and tourism.
Chengdu and other parts of the southwest region are very important for the bilateral relations between China and Switzerland. Undoubtedly, the new consulate general will help the people in southwest China to know better about Switzerland. We will let them know more about an innovative, creative and competitive Switzerland through a wide variety of economic and cultural events, "said Jean-Jacques de Dardel, Ambassador of Switzerland in China.

Switzerland Cements Ties with Chengdu
With the furthering cooperation between Switzerland and Chengdu over the recent years, Switzerland has gained increasing popularity among Chengdu people. In January 2016, the Swiss Visa Application Center was put into operation, offering visa service for business people and travelers from Chengdu to the northern European country.
As part of the Sino-Swiss Low-carbon Cities (SSLC) Project, a memorandum of understanding for the SSLC Project (Chengdu) was signed on April 8, and the project was launched in the same month in the city. Frank Eggmann, Consul-General of Switzerland in Chengdu expressed that the consulate general will cooperate with all cultural sectors to improve cultural exchange between China and Switzerland.
