Shuangliu Int’l Airport’s Passenger Traffic Hits Nearly 50M in 2017

Chengdu is becoming an ever more important international aviation hub in China.
The passenger throughput of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport reached 49.8 million in 2017, up 3.8 million compared with that in 2016, sources from the Sichuan Provincial Airport Group were cited as saying on January 20. The airport still ranked fourth in the Chinese mainland and first in central and western China in terms of the volume. It's noteworthy that in the past year, the number of inbound and outbound passengers in the airport exceeded 5 million, accounting for more than 10% of the airport's total annual passenger throughput.
The airport's annual passenger throughput broke through 30 million and 40 million in the past five years and surged to nearly 50 million last year, which resulted from its ever expanding and more accessible aviation network. Statistics show that in the past year, the routes of the airport increased to 315, including 104 international (regional) ones, and the annual international passenger traffic climbed to 5.12 million from 1.9 million in 2012.
The city is going to make greater efforts to expand its international aviation network covering more destinations in European, African and Asian countries, the US, and Australia, and to open three new international regular direct air routes every year, trying to have more than 120 international (regional) air routes by 2022, including over 65 regular non-stop links. The first international direct air service between Chengdu and St. Petersburg will be launched on Jan 26.
