The information office and foreign affairs office of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government launched a media tour to the city's international sister cities on Dec. 10. The week-long program is aimed to further the partnership between Chengdu and Perth, Australia and Hamilton, New Zealand.
On December 15, local time, the media group arrived in Hamilton, the fourth largest city in New Zealand, and visited the Waikato Innovation Park (WIP).
Mr. Stuart Gordon, CEO of WIP said to the reporters that the Park has been home to more than 40 export-oriented enterprises and organizations and the headquarters of New Zealand’s technology alliance involving animal husbandry and life science. It covers over 95% of the country’s food producers involving livestock industry and life technologies. So far, nearly 10% of the Park’s enterprises and organizations have established relationships with their counterparts in the Chinese Mainland.
Mr. Gordon introduced that so many dairy companies have settled in the Park due to its thoughtful services and perfect infrastructure. To foster talents, its has teamed up with famous R&D institutes and colleges and universities such as the University of Waikato.
“The University of Waikato and Chengdu University have been collaborating well. We hope New Zealand and Chengdu could create more mutual cooperative opportunities in the aspects of agriculture, agrotechnique and farm produce, etc.,” said Mr. Gordon.
As a megacity in western China, Chengdu, with strong innovation capability and huge market potential which are highly valued by WIP, is growing fast economically. Mr. Gordon expressed that he will visit Chengdu as soon as possible to strengthen the mutual partnership in education, scientific research and business, and he welcomes Chengdu’s enterprises to visit the Park in the near future.
