The event brought together celebrated contemporary Chinese writers, representatives from famous domestic bookstores, and big names in the Chinese publishing industry, who probed into the inter-growth between bookstore and city. At the scene, a ranking of domestic cities in terms of the number of bookstores was released. It shows that Chengdu, following Beijing, ranks second on the list with a total of 3,463 brick-and-mortar bookshops.
Recognized as one of China's top 10 cities of digital reading for 3 consecutive years and the City of Bookstores in China in 2017, Chengdu has long been a place with vibrant cultural atmosphere, where local citizens enjoy reading very much.
"Chengdu is culturally enriched," said Mr. Zhou Guoping, a prestigious Chinese writer. In his view, the bookstores around Chengdu offer a rewarding lifestyle to the local residents, and make more people love reading.
