Spring Festival Celebration of Flash Mobs at Wide and Narrow Alleys Goes Viral Online

Authors: Go Chengdu

On February 7, a large crowd of flash mobs sang the song China My Motherland at the Wide and Narrow Alleys, a hot tourist attraction in downtown Chengdu, to celebrate the traditional Chinese Spring Festival. The event drew widespread attention and got much media exposure across the country, including that of the CCTV NEWS.
On that day, Peter Chen, a 75-year-old guitarist chanting the song with strong emotion, caught the eyes of all people in the alleys.
A popular singer from Taiwan, Peter was born in Chengdu in 1944 and left for Taiwan with his parents when he was 3 years old.
He returned to Chengdu for the first time in 1988, and came back again this year.
Inspired by him and Chengdu singer Ma Wei, the tourists and local residents in the block gathered together quickly and sang the song in unison.
Following the chorus, Sichuan Opera and rap music performances were put on stage.
Li Linglin, a Sichuan Opera actress, sang a melody which reflects the lifestyle of the locals.
The passionate young people expressed their strong love for their motherland through a rap song, and a group of children in panda costumes sang together and danced to the music.
