Huanglongxi is about 38 km to the southeast of Chengdu downtown and its history dates back to 2, 000 years ago. Many old vestiges can still be found at the town, featuring old buildings more than 100 years old, narrow lanes paved with stone slabs, old temples and workshops, and a very old Huangjue tree (Ficus virens ) by the river.
The town used to be an important port in Chengdu and the history of water transportation has left impression on the culture and folk art to the present day, such as fire dragon dance, floating paper boats, boatman’s labor song and night watch chanting.
