Chengdu was well-known as a city of flower in ancient China. The flower fair in Chengdu has a history of more than 1,000 years, which can be traced back to the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties. In modern times, the First Chengdu Flower Fair was launched in 1951 at Qingyang Temple (one of the most famous Taoist temples in China). It became an annual one-month or one-month-and-a-half event after that. Since 1980, the venue of the Fair has been changed into the Culture Park next door to Qingyang Temple.
