Chengdu to Launch New International Flights

On March 29, China’s civil aviation will adopt the summer and autumn flight schedule. Before the official implementation of the schedule, Chengdu’s international air route network is set to see new changes: Air China will launch a new exclusive direct passenger route from Chengdu to Brussels, while Sichuan Airlines will introduce a new direct route to Vientiane, which will feature up to two direct flights per day.

Direct Flights from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Brussels

Starting March 26, Air China will launch a new direct route from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Operated with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, the route will offer three round-trip flights weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Currently, passengers traveling from Chengdu to Brussels must transit through a third city, and the fastest connection takes over 17 hours. The launch of the new direct route will reduce the travel time between the two cities to less than 11 hours.

Previously, Chengdu has already launched a direct all-cargo route to Brussels. The addition of the direct passenger route will create a combined passenger and cargo air bridge between Chengdu and Belgium.

On March 22, Sichuan Airlines will launch a new direct route from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Vientiane, Laos, operating four round-trip flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The scheduled flight time for the outbound flight is 2 hours and 40 minutes.

In December 2025, Qingdao Airlines became the first to launch a weekly direct flight from Chengdu to Vientiane. However, the ticketing system indicates that Qingdao Airlines will suspend the route after the seasonal schedule change, leaving Sichuan Airlines as the sole operator.

Optimization and Adjustment of International Flights

Following the seasonal schedule change, Sichuan Airlines will optimize and adjust several of its international routes. These adjustments include increasing direct flights from Chengdu to St. Petersburg, Rome, Nha Trang, and other destinations, and reducing the number of direct flights from Chengdu to Tokyo. In April, the Chengdu-Tokyo direct service will be cut from six to five weekly flights, while direct flights to St. Petersburg, Rome, and Nha Trang will each increase by one additional weekly flight.
