As of 2025, Chengdu has recorded over five million pets and two million pet-owning households. Pets are not only family companions but also a part of urban life.

Furry companions falling ill are not uncommon. Recently, a pet clinic in Chengdu has captured the city’s attention, where cats and dogs can receive medical treatment for as little as RMB 5 or 10. Although the clinic opens at 9:30 in the morning, a large crowd already forms a long line before 8:00.

“Chengdu is a pet-friendly city, and I particularly appreciate the atmosphere here,” Fang Tao, manager of the pet clinic, shared. “Numerous parks are open to pets and are equipped with dedicated pet-friendly facilities.”

In recent years, Chengdu has been promoting its development into a pet-friendly city. A growing number of city parks and ecological green spaces now officially allow pets, offering residents and their furry companions heart-warming spaces to enjoy nature together. By enhancing public space management and improving pet-friendly facilities, Chengdu is becoming a more compassionate and inclusive city.
