Chengdu has established sister-city relationships with many cities in the world and is becoming a new focus in the world because of its rapid development.

Chengdu has greatly increased the tempo of international economic and cultural exchange in recent years and gained a global recognition because of the city’s distinctive characteristics, investment opportunities and hospitality to different cultures in the world.
So far, eight countries have consulates in Chengdu. The foreign consulates in Chengdu are: United States Consulate General Chengdu, Germany Consulate General Chengdu, Republic of Korea Consulate General Chengdu, Thailand Consulate General Chengdu, France Consulate General Chengdu, Singapore Consulate General Chengdu, Pakistan Consulate General Chengdu, Sri Lanka Consulate Chengdu, Australia Consulate General Chengdu, Israel Consulate General Chengdu.
In 1979, Chengdu signed a sister city agreement with Montpellier, France, the first pair of Sino-French sister cities. Later Chengdu signed sister city agreements with cities in ten countries, as well as signing a friendly region agreement with the Dalarna province in Sweden.
The list of sister cities of Chengdu is as follows: Montpellier (France), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Linz (Austria), Kofu (Japan), Knoxville (Tennessee, the US), Phoenix (Arizona, the US), Winnipeg (Canada), Mechelen (Belgium), Volgograd (Russia), Volgograd (Russia), Palermo (Italy), Gimcheon (South Korea), Medan (Indonesia), Dalarna (province, Sweden), Bonn (Germany), Honolulu (Hawaii, the US), Haifa (Israel), Flemish Brabant (province, Belgium), Sheffield (UK), Maastricht (Netherlands), Perth (Australia), Horsens (Denmark).
