Guide to CTCSOL Written Exam Registration

On 25 September, 2021, various exam sites for the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (CTCSOL) are going to open up for written exams. Interested? Check out this guide, and remember to bookmark!

 

 

1. Exam registration

 

 

For applicants of Chinese nationality (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), please choose the Regular Edition; for foreign nationals, choose either the Regular Edition or the Local Edition.

 

Regular Edition:

  • Passionate about international teaching of the Chinese language.
  • Mastery of a foreign language. 
  • A bachelor's degree from an approved university is required for the applicant who pass the written exam and interview to obtain the certificate.


Local Edition:

  • For foreign nationals who are passionate about international teaching of the Chinese language and dedicated to the transmission of the Chinese language and Chinese culture.  
  • Junior college or above education qualification (including fresh graduates). 
  • Chinese proficiency equal to HSK (Level V) or HSKK (Intermediate Level).

 

Registration time: Between 10 and 31 August, 2021. The registration system opens at 10 a.m. on 10 August, Beijing time.

Registration process:

Step 1: Register an account. Register your account at the website www.chineseteacher.org.cn

Step 2: Register for an exam. Choose an exam site and exam time, fill in personal info (ensure authenticity and completeness of information, which must in identical to the personal identification document used for registration), upload your digital identification photo taken within the last six months in full face and unobscured view. Double-check the information you have filled in and submit if there are no errors.

*Applicants may not participate in the exam in another site.

Step 3: Pay your exam fee. Applicants shall pay the exam fee within the registration period, after which payments will not be accepted. Fees paid are non-refundable, and applicants may not change the exam site or exam date. If the number of applicants has reached the upper limit, the application registration for said exam site will close, and applicants that have not yet paid the exam fee will no longer be able to make payment. In such cases, applicants may try applying for other exam sites.

Step 4: Print your exam admission ticket. For applicants that have succeeded with exam application, log on to the website between 20 and 24 September, 2021, to print the exam admission ticket. Please remember to print the exam admission ticket before the exam date, because printing will not be available on the date of the exam. Applicants without the exam admission ticket and original personal identification documents used for registration will not be allowed to partake in the examination.

 

Downloading client software for at-home online exam:

For applicants that signed up for the at-home online exam, log on to http://www.chinesetest.cn/ctcsolclient.html between 8 and 15 September, 2021, to download the exam client software, then follow on-screen instructions to check internet connection speed and conduct exam simulation. The download channel will be closed after the aforesaid period.

Notification about the availability of client software download will be announced before 3 September, 2021.

 

 

2. Exam format

 

 

The at-home online exam format will be available in China. On the date of the exam, an applicant needs to take the exam at a location within China that has an internet connection, equipment and an environment that comply with at-home online examination requirements. Those that do not meet conditions will not be allowed to take the exam, and fees paid will not be refunded.

 

Foreign applicants shall consult local exam sites to learn about the exam format. For contact info of exam sites, inquire at the "Official Certification Center" (官方认证中心) on the CTCSOL exam service website www.chineseteacher.org.cn

 

 

3. Exam result inquiry

 


Applicants may log on to the website www.chineseteacher.org.cn 20 workdays after the examination, then enter the exam admission ticket number and name to check the exam result.

 

Before applying for the CTCSOL interview, the applicant must first pass the written exam. For those that pass the written exam but fail the interview, the written exam result is still valid within a period of two years. Those that pass both the written exam and interview may apply for the CTCSOL within two years after the announcement of the interview result. Exam and interview results are invalid after two years, and applicants may not apply for the certificate with invalid results.
