Located to the north of Chengdu and about 440km away from it, Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area contains around 20 tourist sites and is known for its spectacular waterfalls, lush forests, serene plateau lakes and karst rock formations. It was listed as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1992.
