Sichuan Cuisine is gaining popularity among Westerners and makes frequent appearances on the TV screen these days. The most proverbial of all Sichuan Cuisines include over 300 recipes, e.g. Huiguorou, Mapo Tofu, Kung Pao Chicken and Fish-flavored Shredded Pork.
The fountainhead of the Sichuan Cuisine and an internationally-renowned food culture city, Chengdu is the best place to enjoy the authentic Sichuan dishes. When you visit the city, you should try at least some of Sichuan dishes below.

Huiguorou (Twice-cooked Pork, 回锅肉)

Huiguorou literally means “meat returned to the wok”, may be the most popular household dish in Sichuan and can be found in almost every restaurant in Chengdu. The pork is cooked twice ― first boiled, then stir-fried.

Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐)

The dish is known for its tenderness, spiciness and the aromatic smell, often topped with minced beef or pork. You can find Mapo Tofu on the menu at almost every restaurant in Sichuan. It is believed that the dish was created by a pockmarked lady nicknamed Ma Po.
