Foreign journalists who attended the third 2016 G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Chengdu were impressed by the beautiful and international metropolis in western China.
The third 2016 G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting took place on 23-24 July, 2016 in Chengdu, gaining global media attention and coverage. Foreign journalists who attended the city were impressed by the beautiful and international metropolis in western China, which is widely regarded as one of the best places to live, work and start business in China.
Sjoerd den Daas, Dutch Financial Daily: Compared to that in northern Chinese cities, the life in Chengdu is cozier and more comfortable.
I am a journalist with Dutch Financial Daily in Beijing. It is always interesting to cover the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, at which ministers and high-level officials from the G20 members make presence. It is also exciting for me to go to the cities where the meeting is convened and important financial decisions are made. During the meeting in Chengdu, I focused particularly on the words of the Chinese Minister of Finance Lou Jiwei about the Chinese economy and China's policies to get its economy moving.
Compared to the life in northern Chinese cities, that in Chengdu is more laid-back and comfortable. Drinking tea whenever and wherever possible is part of local people's lives. This time I came from Luding County (Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan), where the Luding Bridge is located. In 1935, the Red Army of the Chinese Communist Party won the Battle of Luding Bridge, one of the most celebrated battles of the whole epic journey Long March (October 1934 - October 1935. It was a military retreat undertaken by the Red Army of the Chinese Communist Party, the forerunner of the People's Liberation Army, to evade the pursuit of the Kuomingtang army). I wanted to experience the tough life of the Chinese Red Army soldiers. The last time I visited Chengdu was in March, when I visited some startups and medical companies here.
Antonio Fatiguso, ANSA (Agenzia nazionale stampa associata): Chengdu people are very nice.
My job at ANSA is to provide everything that Italian audience might be interested. The third 2016 G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting offers me a good chance to come to Chengdu. It's exciting to talk with many interesting people from different parts of the world. I also attended the second 2016 G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Shanghai in February and will attend the G20 Summit in Hangzhou.
My first impression of Chengdu is really good. I went to the city center by subway yesterday. Chengdu is a beautiful city with tasty food and very nice people. When I was anxiously looking for the subway to the convention center, a local lady was very kind to calm me down and helped me find the subway station. I hope to visit the city again someday in the future.
Assis Moreira, Brazilian Valor Economico: I decided to spend two more days in Chengdu.
I am based in Geneva, Switzerland and mainly write about finance, banks and trade. Because I always pay close attention to G20 meetings and activities, every time when a G20 meeting is convened, I need to go there. I have written 5 stories about this meeting in Chengdu. When I am in the cities where the meetings are held, I always stay in a hotel, working and writing articles. But this time after the meeting I will spend two more days in Chengdu to visit the giant pandas and the Giant Buddha.
