During the just past three-day May Day holiday, Chengdu welcomed nearly 9.84 million tourists and realized a total revenue from the travel sector of RMB13.4 billion, up 12% year on year and 17.30% respectively, according to statistics released by the Chengdu Municipal Tourism Administration.
Data from major online travel agencies in China show that Chengdu took second place among all domestic travel destinations during the holiday. Among all popular scenic spots and attractions in the country, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding ranked third, and Jinli cultural block 5th.
Natural and human landscapes, cultural relics and historical sites, and folk customs embodying Chengdu's brilliant culture and profound civilization are highly popular with travelers, said officials from Chengdu Municipal Tourism Administration. In addition, during the three days, the city offered diverse festive events and activities, livening the local tourist market up significantly.
