On October 24, Chengdu signed an MoU on friendly exchange with Sapporo, Japan.
The two cities will strengthen mutual ties and cooperation in the fields ranging from IT, environmental protection to catering and tourism, and further exchanges between each other's companies as well as people. Currently, Sapporo is making preparations for a products fair to be held in Chengdu in the near future.
There is a huge potential for the mutual partnership between the two cities. "Sapporo has prioritized such industries involving food and beverage, travel, IT and hi-tech innovation, in which Chengdu also does well. I hope for a reciprocal relationship with Chengdu in business, tourism and other fields," said the director of Sapporo's bureau of economy and tourism.
In October 2000, Chengdu's Pengzhou city established a sister-city relationship with Ishikari city, a neighbor of Sapporo.
