On June 6, UK Ambassador to China Barbara Janet Woodward visited Chengdu and attended a press conference to announce the launch of Chengdu-London direct air link starting on July 3.
This is the second time that Ms. Woodward has visited Chengdu since she assumed office as the UK Ambassador to China. In her view, the non-stop air service will boost the exchange and cooperation between the UK and Sichuan, as well as western China as a whole, in tourism, commerce and education, etc.
"Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, is one of the fastest growing cities in China. It is a famous travel destination with the rare giant panda and numerous delicacies. London is the gateway to the UK's fascinating natural attractions and rich cultural heritage sites," Ms. Woodward believes that the air link will be highly popular with frequent flyers between the two places.
During her stay in the city, Ms. Woodward was present at a roundtable on UK-China cooperation in infrastructure construction. She hopes for more dialogues between British companies and their Sichuan counterparts in such fields as law, tax, finance, insurance, architecture design, planning and engineering consultancy, etc. And she is willing to help the two countries’ companies achieve co-development under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
