RMB24b Deals Inked during 2017 GIEF

Nearly 50 theme programs and activities took place, with a gross transaction amount of more than RMB24 billion, during the 3-day Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair (GIEF).
The Information Office of Chengdu Municipal People's Government announced the main achievements of the event at a press conference on May 12.
The 3rd GIEF, themed "Talents and Innovation, Openness and Sharing," with the aim to establish an international exchange and cooperation platform for startups and innovators from across the globe, saw the attendance of about 1200 guests from 47 countries, including 4 Nobel Prize winners, 20 well-known Chinese and overseas academicians, and 53 principals from globally prestigious colleges and universities. "The just-concluded event, with a total audience of over 125,000, outnumbered remarkably the previous two in terms of participating countries, sister cities, famous scientists and heads of colleges and universities," said Ma Liangqian, deputy director-general of Science and Technology Bureau of Chengdu city government.
During the grand event, around 11,000 investors and entrepreneurs from home and abroad showed up at 4 specialized fairs involving 2853 projects which focused on sci-tech innovation and investment, as well as transaction of sci-tech fruits. Based on preliminary statistics, the transaction amount hit RMB8.36 billion, up 35.5% over that of the previous event. In addition, at an equity trading fair, the contracts transacted were valued at RMB15.665 billion and the credit amount reached RMB360 billion.
In terms of exhibitions, more than 600 exhibitors showcased their products in an over 40,000 sq.m space, doubling that of the previous one. 8,100 products with cutting-edge technologies from multinationals including General Electric and Siemens, institutions and organizations, were on display, and some state-of-the-art technologies and products made their first appearance in Chengdu. During the event, some well-known domestic and overseas companies, including iFLYTEK, a national key software enterprise dedicated to the research of intelligent speech and language technologies, and project owners expressed their plans to settle in the city.
As to innovation-based fruits reaped from the GIEF, the Business & Innovation Center for China-Europe Cooperation (CCEC) was put into operation, the intellectual property transfer and transformation platform in Pidu District broke ground, top sci-tech incubation projects from Beijing were introduced into Zhongguancun's innovation center in Chengdu, and the China Pharmaceutical Technology Transfer Center (CPTTC) and a TCM Preparing innovation center were located in the city's Wenjiang District.
