A signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation between Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum and IPSC (Paris & New York) took place August 31 in the museum.
At the ceremony, Vice Director-general of Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture Wang Qiong expressed her appreciation for the museum's efforts of inheriting traditional Chinese culture and the culture of poetry, as well as exploring new ways of international cultural exchange and cooperation. She hoped that the Museum could take the advantage of the partnership with IPSC (Paris &New York) and do better in inheriting, developing and promoting the culture of Du Fu's poetry and the traditional Chinese culture in the international community. Head of IPSC (Paris &New York) addressed the audience and gave his best wish to the collaboration with the museum. The strategic cooperation between the two sides involves such aspect as academic research, cultural experience and cultural creativity and communication, as well as the role of museums in social education.
Historically, an academy of classical learning, also known as Shuyuan ("书院" in Chinese), is an educational institution and a place for academic research in ancient China. The Thatched Cottage Academy was established in 1342. With a great scale during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties, it was one of the top three academies in Chengdu, together with Wenweng Academy and Mochi Academy. To better inherit the cultural essence of the Cottage and carry on the local cultural legacies from age to age, the Museum started earlier this year to rebuild the Thatched Cottage Academy, which, occupying more than 3,500 square meters inside the museum, will be a traditional triple courtyard house. It is dedicated to the innovative inheritance and development of outstanding traditional Chinese cultures, through modern business operations.
