Shearing Robert Dean, an Australian traveler who departed January 1 from Bangkok and headed for Singapore, is the first foreign visitor offered with the 144-hour visa-free stay in the city. Having learned of the policy online before booking flight tickets, Mr. Dean, a genuine foodie, decided to go to Chengdu to taste the legendary Chengdu food he anticipated very much. Although he stayed for only 3 days this time, he hopes he can further explore the "gastronomic city" in the future.
