Chengdu Deepens Ties with India

Chengdu has been accelerating the cooperation with India over the past years, giving an impetus to the friendly exchange and partnership between western China and south Asia.
As an ever-growing metropolis with a developed economy in western China, Chengdu boasts proximity to India, and has unique advantages for Sino-Indian economic, trade and people-to-people exchange. Recent years have seen an increasing number of Indians settling in the city. According to official statistics, as of February 2018, Indians are the fourth largest foreign group in the city, following those from the US, South Korea and the UK.
City-to-city Cooperation
In October 2013, Chengdu established a sister-city tie with Bangalore.
In December 2016, Chengdu established a friendly and cooperative relationship with Agra.
Exchange of Official Visits
In May 2014, Indian Ambassador to China Mr. Ashok K. Kantha visited Chengdu and delivered a keynote speech at Sichuan University.
In May 2015, Mr. Fu Yonglin, then Vice Mayor of Chengdu, attended a business promotion conference on infrastructure in Andhra。
In December 2016, Mr. Tang Liangzhi, then Secretary of CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, paid a visit to Karnataka, promoting mutual cultural and business exchange and collaboration.
In March 2017, Mr. Amit Narang, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian Embassy in China, visited Chengdu's Dujiangyan base of China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda and the Irrigation Project.
Economic and Trade Cooperation
In December 2014, the 2014 India-China (Chengdu) Business Forum was held in Chengdu.
In January 2015, Chengdu companies, under the auspices of the Sichuan International Chamber of Commerce, attended the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2015 in Gujarat.
In April 2015, a round table on economic cooperation between Andhra and Sichuan, co-organized by the Sichuan Department of Commerce and Indian Embassy in China, was convened in Chengdu.
In December 2016, a business delegation from Chengdu visited Bangalore, New Delhi and Agra.
Cultural Exchanges
In May 2014, the "Glimpses of India" event during the Year of China-India Friendly Exchanges, co-organized by Chengdu Municipal Government and Indian Embassy in China, took place in Chengdu.
In June 2015, the 1st India-China (Chengdu) International Yoga Festival, organized by the Consulate General of India in Guangzhou, was held in Chengdu.
In June 2016, an art troupe from Karnataka attended the Chengdu International Sister Cities Youth Music Festival in Chengdu.
In March 2018, the Consulate General of India in Guangzhou and the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Chengdu Municipal Government co-organized the "Know India Tourism Seminar" in Chengdu.
Indian Consular Establishment in Chengdu
During Indian Prime Minister Modi's visit to China in 2015, India announced to establish the Consulate General of India in Chengdu, which is now under preparation.
China and India share a long history of friendly exchanges. Chengdu and the south Asian country were closely linked together through the Southern Silk Road as early as more than two thousand years ago. Chengdu is now accelerating its pace to become an international transportation hub in western China. Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, there will be more opportunities of cooperation between Chengdu and India.

The ongoing exhibition titled China and Belarus Artists Exchange Artworks Collection at Chengdu Art Academyshowcases about 60 paintings by 38 artists from Belarus and Chengdu, China.
