Blueprint of Chengdu New Airport Published

Sichuan Province Airport Group announced on June 1 that it had decided on the general design plan for the second airport of Chengdu after the final round of evaluation of the bidding schemes from globally.
The chosen plan, jointly submitted by China Southwest Architectural Design and Research Institute, China Airport Construction Group Corporation and French architectural firm ADP Ingenierie, covers the overall design of the new airport and the design of terminals and features a layout that resembles the pattern of the Sunbird, the logo of Chengdu, which has a history of some 3, 000 years and represents the creativity and exploration of Sichuan people.
The judging panel of the evaluation commented that the plan was “fashionable, adaptable and preferable functionally and economically.”
Pan Gangjun, president of Sichuan Airport Group, said that the construction of the new airport is expected to start within the year. The airport is scheduled to be put into operation by 2020.

On Dec. 4, the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) project was granted the Jeme Tien-You Award, which is the most prestigious award in the field of civil engineering construction in China.
