The Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu opened officially on November 9.
The Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu opened officially on November 9. Vice-governor of Sichuan province Gan Lin and Minister for Australian Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop unveiled the nameplate for the consulate-general at the opening reception presided by consul-general in Chengdu Nancy Gordon.
The Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu is the 4th Australian consulate in China and has consular districts including the provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Chongqing Municipality. The new consulate will widen the scope of economic and cultural exchange between Australia and Sichuan and Southwest China.
Australia has become one of the most important trading and investment partners of Sichuan and one of the major destinations for overseas investment and students to study abroad.
“We have started the regular Round-table Conference between Sichuan and Australia and we wish it will facilitate the mutual economic and trading cooperation. I hope to see more Australian enterprises to invest in Sichuan in the future,” said Julie Bishop at the ceremony.
