What Foreigners Should Know about the 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Starting from January 1, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has implemented the transit visa exemption policy of 144 hours for foreign travelers from the 53 foreign countries with valid international travel documents and an interline ticket with a confirmed date and seat to a third country (region).
Currently, there are 53 countries eligible for the program:
39 European countries: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Ukraine
6 American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, the United States
2 Oceanic countries: Australia, New Zealand
6 Asian countries: Brunei, Qatar, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, United Arab Emirates
Travel documents required: valid personal international travel documents
Other documents required: an interline ticket with confirmed date and seat to a third country (region) within 144 hours
Port of entry and exit: Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport
Duration of stay: within 144 hours from 00:00 of the next day after entry
Areas allowed to stay: administrative precincts of Chengdu
Notes:
Those whose international travel documents are valid for less than three months at the time of application, or those who possess international travel documents containing refusal stamps affixed by Chinese visa issuing authorities or have records of illegal entry or exit, illegal stay or residence, or illegal employment in China in the past five years, will not be issued temporary entry permits by China's exit and entry administration.
Those who overstay the 144-hour visa-exemption transit period will be punished in accordance to China's laws and regulations.
In case of force majeure which necessitates a longer period of stay than 144 hours, or activities beyond the visa-exemption area, the traveler needs to lodge applications to the exit and entry administration for relevant documents in advance.
