The opening ceremony of the 4th Festival of German Cinema in China Chengdu Stop was held at Joy City on Nov.15, unveiling the 7-day movie show of a selection of nine contemporary German films, to be screened at Stellar Cinema of Joy City.
The event is jointly presented by German Films and the Goethe-Institut China with the theme "When Tomorrow Comes" and focuses on teenage lives, refugee crisis and migration.
"German films has a lot of fans in Chengdu, and this time they will have a chance to communicate with German filmmakers face to face," said Dr. Klaus Schmidt, "Chengdu is not only the hometown of pandas but also an important cultural center in China."

Chengdu stop's opening film was In Love With Lou by Cordula Kablitz-Post, which is based on the story of legendary female psychoanalyst, Lou Andreas-Salomé. "I'm trying to tell the stories which may otherwise be forgotten, like Lou Andreas-Salomé. She is my idle who was striving for her own future with courage and fortitude and finally she became a well-esteemed psychoanalyst," said Cordula Kablitz-Post. "This is my first time in Chengdu and I really hope that Chengdu's audience would like this film. If possible, I'd love to have a film in China, even in Chengdu as I'm very interested in the city and it's culture," she added.
During the opening ceremony, the Oscar-winner Florian Gallenberger, director of COLONIA and the honorary president of the festival, said that the event was a good opportunity for Chengdu people to have a look of German films and to understand how the Germans see the world.
