General Manager of the Crowne Plaza, William Hall, himself a long-term Chengduer, hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony and welcomed guests from home and abroad.
"The Crowne Plaza is approaching its 20th year anniversary in Chengdu and we have always been a big supporter of the local arts scene," mentioned Hall.
"Chengdu is a city of confluence," said Vegh. "It does such a great job of blending the urban and the rural, commerce with leisure, the modern and the traditional, industry and the environment and also in the arts scene, the city is well-known for its many famous artists and artisans who are free to ply their trade in a city of exquisite scenery all around."
Mr. Wehrli featured his wonderful paintings of Chengdu's most renown resident, the Giant Panda. "Of course, as an artist living in Chengdu, I felt that I should honor the Panda in some manner and I did that by doing a series of Panda paintings that can be enjoyed both in my exhibitions and by collectors and buyers alike."
Vegh and Wehrli also paint a number of abstract works, with Wehrli's "Gravity" series very popular among collectors and Vegh's "abstract historical portalism" depictions of postage stamps from his vast global postal history collection used for inspiration and often affixed to the paintings themselves.
The show will run until Sept. 15 in the main lobby of the Crowne Plaza.
